## Quick answer

These four free tools help you understand car insurance before you ask for quotes: what your state requires, which factors push your price up or down, whether a higher deductible pays off and which coverages fit your situation. They never show made-up prices, and nothing you enter is stored.

## Key facts

| Tool | What it answers |
|---|---|
| State minimum lookup | What car insurance the law requires in each state and DC |
| Price factors explainer | Which parts of your profile tend to raise or lower your price |
| Deductible chooser | Whether a higher deductible is worth it, using your own quotes |
| Coverage checklist | Which coverages to require, consider or skip for your situation |

## The tools

- [State minimum lookup](https://mail.statecover-guide.com/tools/state-minimums/): Look up the legal minimum car insurance, PIP and uninsured motorist rules in any state.
- [Price factors explainer](https://mail.statecover-guide.com/tools/premium-factors/): See which parts of your profile tend to raise or lower your car insurance price, without fake quotes.
- [Deductible chooser](https://mail.statecover-guide.com/tools/deductible-chooser/): Compare two deductibles with your own quotes: yearly saving, break-even years and affordability.
- [Coverage checklist](https://mail.statecover-guide.com/tools/coverage-checklist/): Answer a few questions to see which coverages your state requires and which ones fit your situation.
## How these tools work

Every tool is a simple form. When you press the button, our server works out the answer and shows it on the same page, so the tools work on any phone or computer, even with JavaScript turned off. Your answers are only in the page address while you use the tool; we do not save them, and we do not ask for your name, email or phone number.

The tools are built from the same sourced facts as the rest of the site. The state lookup reads each state's requirements from our facts database, where every rule is stored with a link to the state insurance department, motor vehicle agency or statute it came from. The price factors explainer follows the rating factors described by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and crash-risk data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

## What the tools cannot do

They cannot tell you what you will pay. Only an insurer, or a licensed agent or broker quoting on an insurer's behalf, can give you a real price, because each company uses its own rating plan approved under your state's rules. Use the tools to understand your options, then compare quotes for the same coverage from several licensed insurers.

## FAQ

### Do these tools give car insurance quotes?

No. They explain rules and price factors and do arithmetic on numbers you enter. For a price you need a quote from a licensed insurer or agent.

### Is my information saved?

No. Nothing you enter is stored, and the tools do not use cookies.

### Where does the state requirement data come from?

From official state sources such as insurance departments, motor vehicle agencies and statutes. Each row in the lookup links to its source.

### Can I use the tools on my phone?

Yes. They are plain web forms that work on any device and do not need an app or JavaScript.

### How often is the information updated?

The facts behind the tools are reviewed at least every 180 days and whenever a state changes its law.
